Hello Experts,

i have a couple of 6500 running in VSS today and it will be replaced by a 6800XL with the line card C6800-32P10G , sup - VS-S2T-10G.

the question that i have to connect the 3850 access switches using 10G (multimode or single mode) connections so i am sure that for 10G connections when it comes to 3850 we can use the following

SFP-10G-SR-S, SFP-10G-LR-S

but on the 6800 side , i was checking the compatibility matrix for 10G , and i found that we can use the same above mentioned 10G  SFP's for the line card C6800-32P10G.   but someone told me we need to use X2-10G-SR or LR , is that correct ?

any help will be deeply appreciated.

Hi,

X2 was required on 6500 10Gbps modules.

6800 is SFP/SFP+ on the module you've mentioned.

check: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/interfaces_modules/transceiver_modules/compatibility/matrix/10GE_Tx_Matrix.html

regards,

Jeroen

ps: make sure you have the right IOS on the 6800 chassis to support the module.
