I am in a new environment. I have identified 2 failed 1242 AP's and I would like to replace them with spare 1242's that have not been configured. I would like to add the configuration of the failed AP's to the spares. These AP's are described as autonomous because they do not connect to a controller. But they have static IP's and they broadcast a specific VLAN. How can I copy the configs of one autonomous AP to another? I was hoping this would be similar to copying the configs of switches. Your help is appreciated.

Sorry, the AP's broadcast a specific SSID. Didn't mean to say VLAN.

when you say failed do you mean the radios failed or the entire ap failed? can you login to the ap? if you can i would download pt360 (free) and use the cisco config tool to download the configs from the device and connect to the replacements with a console cable and paste the configs in copy run start and take the old ones out of service then put up the new ones.

Jeremy,
Do I have to use a tool like pt360? Is it possible to use putty to copy the running config and then paste it into a replacement AP? I was surprised to learn that config t does not get me into global config mode.

you could just copy and paste that would work fine.
