1941 Router : WIC module not supported/disabled in this slot Serial T2 Modual

Hi Guys,

I'm fortunate to have been loaned a 1941 Router to continue with my CCNA studies.

However i can not get my Hwic T2 card to initialise, am i missing something obvious ??

I've updated the IOS

from : c1900-universalk9_npe-mz.SPA.151-4.M.bin

to  c1900-universalk9-mz.SPA.153-3.M.bi

and again to : c1900-universalk9-mz.SPA.154-3.M5.bin

WIC Slot 1:
Serial 2T (12in1)
WIC module not supported/disabled in this slot
Hardware revision 1.0 Board revision B0
Serial number 16196479 Part number 800-03181-01
FRU Part Number WIC-2T=
Test history 0x0 RMA number 00-00-00
Connector type PCI

With my CCNA studies i have x3 1841 Routers running on IOS 12.x but the point being that the card works as expected in the 1841 routers.

I have tried searching around the net for any solutions and all i could find was to update the IOS, but it still fails.

More information

ROM: System Bootstrap, Version 15.0(1r)M12, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

I assumed that the WIC card was just plug in and play so to speak. My 1841 routers come with the hiwic-T2 cards pre installed.

I did find a compatible list cisco help page indicating that it was compatible.

I'm a little confused as i've not come across this problem in my limited experience with cisco equipment.

I am reading from various sources / pages that the HWIC-T2 is compatible

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/interfaces-modules/high-speed-wan-interface-cards/datasheet_c78-491363.html

Then a cisco PDF that says its not ?

http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/products/collateral/routers/1900-series-integrated-services-routers-isr/aag_c07_563807.pdf

So my card looks like this

http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/products/collateral/interfaces-modules/datasheet_c78-491363.doc/_jcr_content/renditions/datasheet_c78-491363-1.jpg

But the output from the Diagnostics shows a part number of

FRU Part Number WIC-2T=

I'm I now getting confused . . . . .

I would love to use the HWIC-T2 in the 1941 as i have the cards and serial cables from my 1841 routers, and it would make a great lab.

Some direction / help would be most appreciated thanks for reading.

Hello,

I think you need the 1941ISR (G2) for the card to be supported...

Thank you for the reply.

I was not aware of a version 2.

I will see if i can find a list for the version one ISR.

Apreciate the help.

Hello,

check Table 2 in this link: the HWIC-2T is supported on the 1841 G1 (first generation) and the 1921 ISR G2.

Hi Thank you for your reply.

I'm ok with the 1841 as the HWIC-2T works fine. I was hoping to remove a card from the 1841 and use it in the 1941, i've just started to look into this a bit deeper now as i did not realise the (GS2) was i different router all together.

Its not the end of the world as i can user the g0/0 - g0/1 ports.

I have a CTRL T1/E1 card in the 1941 that i need to look up and see what i can do with that.

But that's a new topic in its own right.

Thanks for the feedback it keeps me on my toes.
