Hi-
I'm not sure what I'm missing here but I've successfully loaded a new IOS (c2960-lanlitek9-mz.152-4.E6.bin), changed the boot statement, confirmed the next boot and then reload the switch. After reload it still winds up loading the previous IOS (c2960-lanlitek9-mz.152-2.E7). Any suggestions on what I could be missing?

The boot system command was entered incorrectly.
boot system c2960-lanlitek9-mz.152-4.E6.bin
It should be boot system flash:/c2960-lanlitek9-mz.152-4.E6.bin
Thanks,
Alex

You should be able to delete the old flash file and reload. If you used the boot system flash command as below, and it did not work. You have to change the config-register. lookup the config-register, make the change, reload, and then change it back after it returns online.
boot system flash:/newimagename
You can delete the old image in the directory like this:
delete /force /recursive flash:/c2960-lanlitek9-mz.152-2.E7

I agree that you should run the no boot system command first because the boot system command is an additive command meaning that it does not replace the previous boot system command.

Exactly as same as @balaji.bandi mentioned!

I did attempt the no boot system command, then boot system again, with a wr mem/reload following. Still no luck loading the newer IOS. I've listed my commands below. I'm using "boot system" since "boot system flash:" isn't an option, probably newer IOS version I'm guessing. Should I attempt to erase the older IOS, I don't really like the idea of doing that but can't think of any other options at this point.

hey, did you get solution for this?
I am facing same issue on 2960, its booting up with the Old IOS where as the sh boot shows the new IOS in boot sequence.
I upgraded multiple SWs of same model to the same new IOS with the same command for setting boot sequence boot system <IOS_name> however only 1 SW is not booting up with the new IOS.
something to do with bootstrap?
