Hello all,
let me get this straight:
So I have a WS-C2960G-24TC-L, bought from a seller from a datacenter upgrade. Run initially IOS 12.x latest. I upgraded it to 15.0(2)SE11, but seems my pain has nothing to do with any particular IOS version.
When switch starts up, seems 100% perfect, fan works at acceptable noise level. But after a couple of minutes, the fan goes to full speed. After some minutes, fan goes down to normal speed. Then after a couple of minutes, fan goes up to full speed, and this keeps repeating forever. Environment is 18-20C degree, completely normal (some would say even cool) room temperature.
Debug: I have no clue what component to debug, as I couldnt find anything that remotely says like debug TEMP or FAN, most probably for a reason. Debugging ALL would be plain insane, right?
I am suspecting this is clearly a hardware defect. Just not sure what to check or solder on the mainboard? Thermal sensor faulty? Fan RPM reading broken? Fan 3-wires seem in perfect shape.
Has anybody experienced similar FAN crazyness, either on the same switch family, or on similar devices? Was there any solution apart from throwing the whole thing into the junk?

- Consider staying within the home market products for your needs ; also ebay buying never gets assured of product integrity , also Cisco products are usually acquired with software contracts , to for instance be able to upgrade if the problem would be related to a bug ; summary ; the switch is for business use ,

Symptom:
The fan noise of the Catalyst 2960 and Catalyst Express 500 appears to be loud.
Does this apply to my 2960G series of switch

Nobody else has any idea? Just to be clear: I am not complaining about the fan NOISE. I worry about the alternating cyclic fan RPM.
