Hello anyone run into an issue with the 2960L 8 port switches and using a thumb drive?
I've got 2 stand alone 2960L 8TS LL switches and my customer used 2 USB sticks and loaded firmware from a windows machine onto the USB sticks. I've never seen this on Nexus switches or other versions.
Put them into the usbflash0: and now we are getting:
COLO-2960L-02#dir usbflash0:
%Error opening usbflash0:/ (Invalid DOS media or no media in slot)
COLO-2960L-02#
Thank you

I see. You are correct. There is a storage USB as well in the blue section but they are not describing that very well in the hardware guide.
So, then the issue may be a formatting problem on the flash drive. Have a look at this post.

Hi,
It appears that the USB port is for console access and not for transferring IOS from flash drive to a switch.
See the link below:

Thanks for checking Reza, but that appears to be only the mini-USB port - also colored in the Cisco baby-blue area. As can be shown on the CLI, it is a storage device:

Yeah, I think it's the formatting of the drive. They were pulled directly our of the package with no formatting done. We'll try that next.
Thanks Reza...
