type this for password recovery.
switch: flash_init
switch: load_helper
switch: rename flash:config.text flash:config.old
switch: boot
after the switch boots and you are at the enable prompt, type this:
switch# rename flash:config.old flash:config.text
Switch# copy flash:config.text system:running-config

All this seems to me to do is, rename ... then rename back again, the password protected config!
Since all I need to do is flatten the switch, one rename >to config.test.old is fine.
After the config is renamed, it becomes unavailable by default & the switch is unlocked; the switch can then be back-up re imaged or simply re-coded.

As described. Thanks

This procedure did not help with my Cisco Catalyst 3560-CX switch. Followed the directions however the SYST light never turned solid green.

Hi,
This is an excerpt from the password recovery procedure:
Issue the dir flash: command.
Note: Make sure to type a colon ":" after the dir flash.

hi,
when i types
flash_init // it initialize flash
then
dir flash: //it showed me something like
vlan.dat.renamed
c3550-ipservic....
vlan.dat
config.text.renamed
config.text
I wanna ask, why it is showing me two files with same name?

try re starting your PuTTY, or whatever it is you are using, then pull the plug on the switch and re-try
