Hi guys,
I have two switches, WS-3750-24PS-S connected in two cabs via fibre.
Patch panels at both ends with patch leads. Used tester to confirm end to end fibre connectivity.
When plugged in, one switch llights up the other does nothing.
Ports are as follows:
interface GigabitEthernet1/0/2
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport mode trunk
same at both ends.
Tried both gi ports same result.
swapped transceivers over and the same result, (one switch lit one not - the same switch in both cases).
put both trasceivers in each switch, (gi0/1-0/2 in a single switch). on the one that lights up in the original scenario we get link on both ports and they come up, on the other nothing happens.
shut down both ports on the malfunctioning switch and no shut them, no change.
Show transceivers doesnt show transceivers on the malfunctioning switch, and no attempt is made to bring the ports up if the fibre is removed and replaced.
it is almost as though the two gb ports are kaput...
Anything else I can try?

Hi,
Try crossing the fiber strands on one side of the link. It maybe you are connecting tx to tx instead of tx to rx.

All the fibre has checked out, I am guessing that it is layer one at the switch itself...

Post the output to the command "sh post".

Hi Leo,
switch was at a site a couple of hundred miles from me...
got it coming back, so will check it on return although I programmed the switch up on the bench here and followed the POST during testing and didnt see any errors...
Will update you tomorrow...

Hi,
What type of SFP is it ? => http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/interfaces_modules/transceiver_modules/compatibility/matrix/OL_6981.html#wp150398
Post a "show inventory" and "show log".

Hi Leo,
Yeah. spotted that when I started going through it... sure it wasnt there when I configured it on the bench as I paid particular attention to the POSTs due to having removed a stack configuration.
Thanks for the assist, dude: kudos!!!!

Do we have some spare transreceivers?
05-03-2013 12:43 AM
Hi Parvesh,
the previous testing confirmed the SFPs were ok, given the POST failure yes this switch is kaput!
Just one of those things: always happens when the kit is the other side of the country
