3750 product question

I have basic product question on cisco 3750 series switches. I have a few different models here WS-C3750-24TS-E WS-C3750G-24PS-E WS-C3750G-24PS-S WS-C3750G-24TS-S1U WS-C3750G-48PS-S WS-C3750G-48TS-S WS-C3750X-48PF-S WS-C3750X-48T-S Questions 1. What do the TS-E , PS-E, PS-S, PF-S, T-S etc stand for ? 2. Also within the 48 port switches if i have to create a stack , would i be able to mix models in creating a stack ?

Mixed stacks are not supported with switches running the LAN base feature set.
–A mixed hardware stack with a mixture of Catalyst 3750-X, Catalyst 3750-E, and 3750 switches as stack members.

For example, a stack with Catalyst 3750-X and 3750 switches supporting the IP services features.

–A mixed software stack with only Catalyst 3750-X, only Catalyst 3750-E, or only Catalyst 3750 switches supporting different features as stack members.

For example, a Catalyst 3750-X-only stack with some members running the IP base feature set, other members running the IP services feature set, and the remaining members running the IP services feature set.

–A mixed hardware and software stack with Catalyst 3750-X, Catalyst 3750-E, and Catalyst 3750 switches supporting different features as stack members.

For example, a stack with the Catalyst 3750-X members running the IP services feature set and the Catalyst 3750 members running the IP services software image.

would i be able to mix models in creating a stack ?

As long as all the switches must have the same IOS version and the same feature set.

What do the TS-E , PS-E, PS-S, PF-S, T-S

The suffix of "-E" means Enterprise (or Layer 3) feature set and "-S" means Standard Layer 2 IOS feature set.

PF stands for "PoE capable, FULL power".  This means your 48-port switch is guaranteed 15.4w PoE to all ports.  If you have PS, this means you are guaranteed 15.4w PoE to only 24 ports in a first-come-first-serve-until-full basis. 

 

"T" means you have a non-PoE switch.  TS means non-PoE with SFP ports.

I have a stack of   WS-C3750G-48PS  , you mentioned PS only provides POE for 24 ports /switch  (firstcome first serve). One of the switches in my stack is holding more than 31 phones . lit up & working .  Would you be able to throw some light on it.

That's correct.  "PS" only guarantees 15.4w PoE to 24 ports (out of 48 ports of your switch).  But if your powered end-device requires less than 15.4w then you can potentially increase the amount of powered end-device to more than 24.  :)

As the other posters have already noted, you can pretty much mix and 3750 units within the same stack.  As they also noted, there are some "gotchas".

StackWisePlus units, the E and X series, lose many of their "Plus" stack features if you stack with original StackWise units.  (If possible, I recommend avoid mixing the two generations of StackWise.)

The 3750G-12S offers SDM templates unique to it.  If you stack with other units, you have to use "standard" SDM templates.  (If possible, I recommend to avoid stacking this unit with any other models.)

As also noted, the X series with LANBase can only stack with themselves.

Only the X series support StackPower.

IOS versions and/or feature set don't always need to match.  However, its good practice to have all stack units on the same IOS version.  If you mix IPBase and IPServices in same stack, to avoid a single point of failure, two stacked units should have IPServices.  (For a while, Cisco also had an Advanced IPServices feature set, but they, in later IOS versions, combined it with IPServices feature set.)

The -suffix power options and -suffix IOS feature sets apply to "as ordered from the factory".  Often IOS feature set and/or power can be field upgraded.  I.e. a unit's -suffix might not accurately represent what the unit supports, in the field.
