3750 stack - changing the switch member numbre -issue ??

                   Hi Team ,

                   Need your help to understand  on the below scenario 

1)  current  switch have below mentioned  switch stack details

   . 

switch#sh switch

2) I am in process of changing switch member number from  3 to 2   , I executed the command on the global config mode " switch 3 renumber 2 "

but I yet to reload the switch .

here I have I doubt . as currently  the ports module are   fas 1/0/1-48  and  fas 3/0/1-48 under respective vlan  . once I reload the switch is the switch port module number will get change to  fastethernt 3/0/1-48 to   fastethenet 2/0/1-48 ???  .  if it happens  the vlan configuation which configured on the

fas 3/0/1-48 module  also get configured automatically  or I need to configure  manually

3) as i said  i have execuated  the command  :  "switch 3 renumber 2 " , how to remove this or revert the change  , as i checked in the running config  this command not exist . please help

Please see the detail below,

Answer 1:

If you manually change the member number by using the switch current-stack-member-number renumber new-stack-member-number global configuration command, the new number goes into effect after that member resets (or after you use the reload slot stack-member-number privileged EXEC command) and only if that number is not already changed. You need not configure anything manually.

If you manually change the number of a stack member and no interface-level configuration is associated with that new member number, that stack member resets to its default configuration

Note: The interface-specific configuration of each stack member is associated with the stack member number. Stack members retain their numbers unless they are manually changed

• If an interface-specific configuration does not exist for that member number, the stack member uses its default interface-specific configuration.
  
• If an interface-specific configuration exists for that member number, the stack member uses the interface-specific configuration associated with that member number
  

If a stack member fails and you replace with it with an identical model, the replacement switch automatically uses the same interface-specific configuration as the failed switch. Hence, you do not need to reconfigure the interface settings. The replacement switch must have the same stack member number as the failed switch

Answer 2:

Once you manually execute renumber of the switch and confirm, this will take effect once you perform the next reload.

How do you manually change the member number?

1. Go to global configuration mode.
   
2. Issue the command switch current-stack-member-number renumber new-stack-member-number .
   
3. Return to the privileged EXEC mode and reload the member with the command reload slot current-stack-member-number .
   
4. After the member boots up, issue the command show switch to verify the stack member number. If the number is used by another member in the stack, the switch selects the lowest available number in the stack

Hi Aru,

Thanks for the response ,  currently I configured ( revert the changes )  switch(config)# switch 3 renumbre 3 .

if it reloads  i belive it will comeback with interface configuration   fastethernet 3/0/1-48  which is configred at startup-config currently ???. please suggest

yesterday it  was configured   " switch 3 renumber 2  ( switch was not reloaded )  . but  i coudnt able to find where this config chages stores (  switch 3 renumber 2  or switch 3 renumber 3)  i checked both startup and running config . can you please guide me .

Hi Lerner,

Thanks for your kind response. This changes wont be seen in running-config or startup-config. I understood that you revert the switch back to 3 again. But I hope when you change the switch number, If the number is being used by another member in the stack, the switch selects the lowest available number in the stack.

In our case, you execute #switch 3 renumbre 3, the switch will consider that switch number 3 is already exist in the stack, then it will select the lowest avilable number from the switch stack. The stack member number (1 to 9) identifies each member in the switch stack.

I can see that the Master switch has the priority of 10 (The priority value range is 1 to 15) and this doesnt affect anything on the stack function.

Hi 

I got opprtunity  to relaod the switch , I renumber  Switch 3 to 2    and reset the switch  .

Once switch power up  interface number transit from fas 3/0/1-48  --   fas 2/0/1-48  (please note) with default interface configuration. manaual  configuration required to restore the user data vlan traffic
