(3750-X vs 3750-E) vs (3560-X vs 3560-E) for iSCSI

I'm currently in the market for two switches to handle our iSCSI SAN traffic. From all the research I've been doing, it appears that the 3750 series is the line of choice. My question is, which 3750? What's the difference between the X and E series? The price difference between the two is huge. What are the advantages of going with the 3750 over the 3560 other then the stacking capabilities? If the 3560 line can do the job and provide the same performance I would much rather save the money then to have stacking capabilities. What's the difference between the 3560-X and 3560-E?

Thanks!

They are pretty much the same thing except stackability.

To save money, do not buy new.

What's the difference between the 3560-X and 3560-E?

1.  The "X" supports stacking of the power supply.  Presume the following:

a.  Switch 1 and 2 has dual power supply and the power stacking cable is cabled correctly;

b.  If one of the two switches power feed to both power supply, the other switches spare power supply can power the switch.

2.  There are some modules the "X" have not yet supported that the "E" can.  One example is 10Gb ER modules (not that you may need it).

Hi

There are several differences in 3750X and 3750E

amongst the more important ones are the ability to share powersupplies through the powerstack.

This is atleast to me a realy big thing,

Another that might or might not be important to you is the ability to do link encryption at wirespeed. 802.1ae

This might not be a thing you use or it might be a realy god thing depending on where you put the switches.

One little headsup though, they can not today do link encryption between eachother ie 3750x-3750x, but that is on its way in a couple of months according to what I have heard.

Today they only can do between servers/pc and also towards the 7000, and if I am not mistaken it will also work towards the brand new 2960-C aswell as the 3560-C switch series

If the two switches are to be in the same rack or racks just next to each other then I would take a close look at the 3750X since the powercable can be as long as 150cm between the switches aswell as the 3meter stacking cable. so you can stack between two adjacent racks.

if they are not to be connected to eachother as a stack then I would look at the 3560 and the only reason for that would be the pricedrop between 3750x and 3560x.

Why do you need 2 switches ? location ? Port density ?

HTH

Good luck
