Hi Team,
I have recently purchased a brand new Cisco Catalyst 2960G 24 port switch and trying to connect using console cable. However I dont see anything on my emulation program screen. All settings are good, i changed to cable to see if that was a cause. With same settings and cable I can connect to the other router and have no problem. What could be the possible cause? Is the console port on the switch is bad or is there anything else we can try with?
The 2 switch LEDs are solid green (SYST & STAT). Power seems to be ok.
I appreciate the help,
Thanks,
Anjum

Hi Anjum,
The baud rate of the emulation program must match the baud rate set on the switch. To check the baud rate on switch, check the speed under 'line console 0' in show run output.
Most commonly used baud rates are 9600 and 115200 and you can try them one by one.
Hope this helps,
Shashank

Hi singh,
thanks for the reply. I would change the baud rate if I could able to connect to the switch. I don't see anything in my screen when i connect using console cable. To change the baudrate I have to log into the switch first which i can't. The other thing I was wondering could it be because there is no IOS on the switch? I mean if switch has no IOS installed can we still be able to see intial configuration of the switch?

Hi,
try to change the baud rate of your terminal emulation program (HyperTerminal, TeraTerm, PuTTY, whatever you are using).
It must match to the baud rate configured on the switch you are connecting to.
