3750G and 3750X together in stack

Hi,

I have 2 Catalyst 3750G 48PoE switch connected together using stack cable and need to add another switch.  I can't get 3750G switches anymore so have had to get a 3750X which I was told would be compatible.  However I'm struggling to find a firmware that will work on both switches.

The existing 3750G uses the IPBase feature set and the c3750-ipbasek9-tar.122-50-SE3.tar IOS image.  This image won't go on the new switch, when I try and install the image I receive an error saying it doesn't support this system type.  So, I've tried installing the c3750e-ipbasek9-tar.150-2.SE7.tar on the 3750X switch which it accepts, however I now connect the switch in the stack and receive a Version Mismatch in the stack which I was expecting.  But then when I try and put that firmware on the old 3750G switch I again receive the error it doesn't support that system type.

Anyone know which IPBase firmware will actually work with both switch types in the same stack?

Thanks.

Looks like you are installing the 3750X code onto the 3750G. Use the following images::

3750X : c3750e-ipbasek9-tar.150-2.SE7.tar

3750G : c3750-ipbasek9-tar.150-2.SE7.tar

...note the 'e' in the 3750X image.

cheers,

Seb.

Hi Paul,

15.0.2SE7 goes on the 3750X fine - I uploaded the config and ensured it would be elected stack master - then when I add the 3750G switch to the stack it detects the mismatched versions and tries to update the firmware on the other switch but fails saying Switch 2 does not support that system type.

I've also tried running the following just on the 3750G not connected to the stack and get the same error:

archive download-sw /overwrite /allow-feature-upgrade tftp://10.0.0.2/c3750e-ipbasek9-tar.150-2.SE7.tar

Looks like you are installing the 3750X code onto the 3750G. Use the following images::

3750X : c3750e-ipbasek9-tar.150-2.SE7.tar

3750G : c3750-ipbasek9-tar.150-2.SE7.tar

...note the 'e' in the 3750X image.

cheers,

Seb.

Heh - I really hope it's that simple :)

Thanks Seb - downloaded the image so will give it a go.
