3750v2-24fs Switch 2 Provision not allowing new printer connectivity

For a few weeks we had been troubleshooting a printer that we were trying to add to our network. We tried everything.. New fiber, media converter, cat 6, and switch port. The printer was unpingable but showed connect, until we finally moved it from 2/*/* to 1/*/*. Once it was moved to the top switch and port configured it was pingable and usable. We are not sure why this happened.. Has anyone else seen an issue like this?

Hi
was there an arp and mac at l2 and l3 for the printer when it was connected to the second switch ? was the port in FWD state for STP ?

Hi, thanks for the reply. The mac address was showing in the ARP table, but port security mac address sticky wasnt picking it up and IP was not pingable.

ST port fast, ST BPDUguard enable, ST BPDUfilter enable, ST guard root are the STPs we have on the ports. checked the SFP and sfp works fine checked multiple ports on 2/x/x.

Hi
what was the status of the port security at the time if it was in violation it wouldn't be reachable ?
Were there any logs generated for the port at this time in show logs ?

if the mac and arp were there but unreachable i would be looking at the port-security as the issue as that's the only thing on the port that could prevent that if mac and arp are learned at l2 and l3, its difficult to tell though without outputs its only guess work

shouldn't use bpdufilter on a standard access port , portfast and bpduguard is good enough, filter is used when connecting to the likes of a hub , it kind of turns off STP so your actually disregarding the portfast and guard

The port was in a open status, no macs attached to it as it was an empty port before, just set to a max 2 and to sticky the macs that do attach to it. Also mac of printer wasn't attached to anything before. We are going to try a workstation from switch one on switch two next week when we are at said site.
