Hi All,
I had a understanding of setting the config register to 0x2102 before IOS upgrade of any router/switches to load the config from NVRAM & IOS from flash during next bootup. This would throw up a prompt under show version as 0x2102 in next reload.
When i followed a same on 3850 stack with setup of 0x2102 switch came up with config which was a success but it always shows up 0x102 under show version output. I have seen this behavior in 2 upgrades of 3850.
This was not seen in other switches like 3750,4500 which shown up correct value 0x2102 after upgrade.
Any idea why is it so with 3850 showing as 0x102? Is that a bug as i am not finding any concrete reason for this on support forums.
Regards,
Vishal

Hi,
That is the correct behavior. Some smaller switches show it as 0x102 and NOT 0x2102. Example from a 3850:
Configuration register is 0x102

Hey Reza,
Pleased to hear that, thanks.
So does that mean will it harm if we leave the config register to 0x102 or do we still need that to make 0x2102? If we leave as 0x102 will switch still bootup with existing saved configs?

You should get the correct behavior with 0x102. You do not need to worry about 0x2102.

Hi Vishal,
As also Rick noted, there is no need to change anything. Just leave it like it is. Its all correct.
