3850 -48P-S failed IOS upgrade

I've been reading the posts, here and on other forums from users having the "Mainboard hardware authentication failed. Abort init ..." error following an (failed) IOS update.

I've read the posts and have found anything that explains this:

When completing a successfull emergency install via USB using cat3k_caa-universalk9.16.03.06.SPA.bin, the above reboot loop occurs. If i complete the same emergecy install using :cat3k_caa-universalk9.SPA.03.06.08.E.152-2.E8.bin i'm back to the "Mainboard Hardware..." issue.

The emergency install does appear to re-write the packages.conf file with the correct info:

Thanks
