3850 switch 10G speed/throughput test

Hi All,

I have 4 units of 3850 switches in a campus interconnected together via 10G SFP single mode fibers.

How do i veriy and test the 10G speed/bandwidth across 2 switches?

Ive used iperf to do end to end user laptop test. It is giving me a iperf results of 10sec, 1.10GBytes Transfer and 941Mbits/sec across point to point sites.

Understandably laptop only has 1G network port.

So i am wondering how do you guys do a test on 10G links?

Also how do i rule out, if the fiber across sites are patched accurately without signal lost, that could affect my 10G links across sites.

Hi,

As you already know the limitation is the 1Gig NIC on the laptop. There are hardware you can purchase or rent to test the 10Gig connections but the equipment is not cheap.  Here is company I have used in the past. The product works well.

Usually if the link lights come up and you have no connectivity issue, the signal is good.  That said, there test equipment you can use to measure DB loss per patch panel and total DB losses.

have a look at this link:
