3850 Upgrade 3.7.5 to 16.6.4 various problems

Hello Community, we are moving our 3850 Stacks from 3.7.5 to 16.6.4 and are facing 'diffuse' problems like "not enough flash space" although only 3.7.5 in flash (see below), update successful after second try or even stacks auto-copying old SW over the new one.

My question: how can we prepare the stacks for successful upgrade or what do we have to look for to not get into trouble ...

Thank you in advance and kind regards

Herbert

The thing which always worked for me is deleting all package files before upgrade

Something like this

With deleting all package files; is there a risk that the switch/stack doesn't come back after a crash or power outage?

Run the command "software clean" first and then try the upgrade again.

We will try this although i thought this doesn't make sense when only one (the running) set of packages are in flash.

I did a clean every time when there was more older SW in flash. E.g. 3.3.3 and 3.7.5.

But anyway we'll try if this helps ...

we ran "software clean". This didn't help. Besides we noticed that there are a lot of subdirs in flash. By looking into these, adding up the files/sizes therein, it is now clear why flash space was not sufficient for an update...
How can i figure out what can be safely deleted, and what about flash content of stack members. Do i have to remove stack members to get access to their flash?

Post the complete output to the command "dir".
