I have a new 4507r-e with a WS-X4013+10GE (Supervisor Engine II-Plus-10GE) module in slot 3. When I power up the chassis I get an error condition. I've tried other Sup ii+10g modules & 4507r-e chassis with the same results. The module is compatibly with this series and the ios seems to be valid. Any suggestions.
Thanks,
Bob

My apologies, I should've caught it earlier. You need 12.2(40)SG for the 4507R-E and the previous link I posted has incorrect information.
Slots 3 and 4 are reserved for supervisor engines only in Cisco Catalyst 4507R-E; Slots 1-2, and 5-7 are reserved for line cards.
This link has the correct information:

Hi Bob,
Slots 4 and 5 are for supervisor engines only.
Try one of those slots and let us know how it works out.

Edison,
Yes, sup is located in slot 4. The blades won't slip in any other slots (larger connector). Also slots 4 & 5 are highlighted with sup only.
Thanks,
Bob

Your initial message indicates the Supervisor was inserted in Slot3.
Power-on-self-test for Module 3: WS-X4013+10GE
Port/Test Status: (. = Pass, F = Fail, U = Untested)
Reset Reason: PowerUp
Am I missing something ?

Hi Edison,
Your not missing anything, I'm probably missing something. But even though the url says slots 4 & 5 are for sups, only 3 & 4 can support a sup module. There are 7 slots in this 4507r-e chassis, slots 3 & 4 are labeled Supervisor (highligted in blue / see attach picture) and inside slots 3 & 4 the backplane connector is too large to support anything other then a superisor (4013+10ge). All of the other slots (including 5) backplane only have a small connector that seems to only supports the line cards (like the 4548 module). i went ahead and only installed the sup in slot 4 and powered it up, and the error message came up(see attachment).
Again, I've attach a picture showing what is labeled on slots 3 & 4 reflecting they support only supervisor modules. Might not be the best picutre, but I think you might be able to make out slot 2 and under it slot 3 & 4 labeled in blue supervisor statement.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Bob

Edison,
Thanks! I believe that should do it. I will upload the new IOS and the blade and believe I should be ok. Thank you again,
Bob
