4507R-E ethernet module problem

Hi...

The problem suddenly started today, connecting any new Server/PC to  the 48 port Module (WS-X4648-RJ45V+E) makes the port flapping, but nothing shows on the  log. The flapping is not frequent. The port connects for almost 2  seconds, then stays offline for 1 minute, again connects for 2 seconds,  stays offline for 1 minute and so on. Even if we disconnect an already  working PC and connect it back, the problem occurs on its port.

There is no special configuration on the ports affected, only switchport mode access and the access vlan. We do not have any PoE devices as yet.

We tested by directly connecting a laptop to the switch via Ethernet and console ports

We did not reboot the module because some live servers  are connected and we are afraid that the problem might spread to the  other ports after the reset.

Relevant sho ver for this switch is  below

Have you checked for bugs in Cisco?

Does it happen on any other port?

Could be a fault port or a bug. It's strange though that a bug would affect only 1 port so it's more likely a faulty port. Of course a restart and IOS upgrade might be in order so plan your downtime.

How many ports are affected?

Have you tried using a TDR from the switch?  The commands combo are:

test cable tdr interface

... wait for 10 seconds ...

sh cable tdr interface

Thanks for the replies,

Actually more than one port is affected. Any port that is disconnected and connected back doesnt come up at all. I tried to search for a bug for this specific module but could not find any. I have asked our Cisco partner to follow up with Cisco TAC (we have shared support).

I havent done TDR from the switch, but I have tried my best to eliminate any physical layer problems (change cables, laptops, direct switch connection, etc. )

Thanks again

Well the bug might not be the module (more than likely not because it would be a harware issue) but could be an IOS related bug. Or power perhaps?

Good luck with it.
