6506 Interface state question (up/down)....

Why would an interface show the status as up/down if the remote end sw is powered down.

Shouldnt it show down/down?

I thought I was going to be solving a layer 2 issue (we had 10 access switches in this state), but when I got onsite, I discovered the site staff (from a school) had just powered them down during the summer.   Regardless, just a curiousity question nonetheless.

Thank you,

Jimmy

hi jimmy,

what you detected is normal. down/down interface status means nothing is connected on your switch.

The interface is not shutdown or "administratively down". Configure "shutdown" on the interface and it should be down/down.
