Hi All,

We have a business requirement to upgrade the supervisor engines from SUP engine 32 to Sup 2T on 6509-E

I would like to know what IOS would be compatible with the new SUP 2T. Currently we are running the following IOS

s3223-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXH3a.bin

Also this image is saved under sup-bootdisk:/

and there is another image saved under bootflash: c6msfc2a-pk9sv-mz.122-17d.SXB11a.bin

Do we need to upgrade the image stored under bootflash as well? i can see the bootvar is pointing to s3223-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXH3a.bin

#show bootvar

BOOT variable = sup-bootdisk:s3223-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXH3a.bin,1;

CONFIG_FILE variable does not exist

BOOTLDR variable does not exist

Configuration register is 0x2102

Standby is up

Standby has 524288K/65536K bytes of memory.

Standby BOOT variable = sup-bootdisk:s3223-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXH3a.bin,1;

Standby CONFIG_FILE variable does not exist

Standby BOOTLDR variable does not exist

Standby Configuration register is 0x2102

Can someone please  explain the difference between bootflash: and Sup-bootdisk

What is importance of the image saved under bootflash:? if possible, can someone provide a link to learn more about 6500

Thanks in advance

Regards,

Jay

Hi,

Here is a good doc to read regarding bootflash and sup-bootdisk.  The good news in on the new Sup-2T, you just have one boot disk that is located on MSFC5 and that is where you load the IOS,

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps708/qa_c67_457347.html

Info on sup-2T:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps708/white_paper_c11-676346.html

As for the image, IOS 15.01SY1 is pretty stable and have not seen a lot of issues with it.
