german_molina1

Level 1

Hi everyone!

I have been in trouble for more than two weeks trying to restore a 6509 Switch from ROMMON mode.

Today I did a procedure seen on internet which was the following:

1. BOOT=s72033-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI7.bin

2. Sync

3. Confreg

4. Reset

After doing that procedure, the Switch started in normal operation but after 30 seconds, it returned to ROMMON mode. Please have a look to the following and if you see any issue don´t hesitate to reply me, Thanks!!

Yeah.

There are 2 switches 6509 configured as a VSS. One of them (what I mention here in the previous post) is failed.

Actually this switch has the following modules:

1. WS-X6748-GE-TX

2. WS-X6716-10GE

3. WS-X6716-10GE

4. WS-SVC-FWM-1

5. VS-S720-10G

The another 6509 is working right now.

Thanks!

i do not have other post reference, You need to provide more information about the issue or background to understand the problem and suggest best we can

so this is working one and failed ? what is failed ?

Mr Balaji,

The client don´t know what happened with the 6509 switch. It seems to be a corrupt IOS running in the Switch.

There are two 6509, one is working under good conditions and the another is failed. They were working as VSS (High availability), but now VSS is not working because the ROMMON condition on the failed switch.

Thanks!

After doing that procedure, the Switch started in normal operation but after 30 seconds, it returned to ROMMON mode.

You may consider to delete configuration of the switch. If switch will panic even with no configuration, you are facing hardware issue.

Cause 00000824 (Code 0x9): Breakpoint exception

Breakpoint exception is software-triggered panic. Internal firmware has detected a condition that's unable to handle. Message "Software forced crash" fired later claims the same. Following messages seems to be related to the issue:

Writing crashinfo to bootflash:crashinfo_20181126-135921-UTC

*Nov 26 13:58:40.858 UTC: %C6KPWR-SW2_SP-4-UNDERPOWERED: insufficient power to operate all FRUs in system.

*Nov 26 13:58:42.612 UTC: %C6KPWR-SW2_SP-4-POWERDENIED: insufficient power, module in slot 4 power denied.

You are facing "insufficient power" issue. Either a power module is faulty or switch power requirements has increased (changed configuration ? added card ? firmware upgrade ?).

Hi Dan,

Do you have any procedure to delete the configuration of the switch and upload the new firmware?

Thanks.

Well, for the purpose of the test, erasing of configuration is not necessary. Use ROMMON commands:

confreg 0x2142
reset

The switch will (re-)start but it will not load configuration saved. Use either standard config mode command "config-register 0x2102" or ROMMON command "confreg 0x2102" to revert back to standard boot mode (e.g. saved configuration is loaded during boot).

Go into the bootflash ("dir bootflash:") and see if the file "crashinfo_20181126-135921-UTC" is present. If it is, attach it to the thread.

Hi Leo,

File "crashinfo_20181126-135921-UTC" is in the bootflash. How can I see more information about it? Don´t know how to download it from 6509.

If you have any procedure to do, let me know.

Thanks!

German

Hi

To see this file you can do the next command and havving your session logging to a file.

more bootflash:crashinfo_20181126-135921-UTC

Also try to verify if your power suplies are connected and working.

The supervisor card has a CF slot.  Copy the file into the CF and take the CF to your computer.

Hi

Please do the next procedure.

Remove all the linecards from the box except supervisors.

Then, power on the box.

It ought to be enough to let the complete boot up process finilize

If this work ok, then please check your power supplies to certify that you have power enough to boot up all the linecards at the same time.
