Hi Everyone,
I am trying to change the 6704 modules(with DFC) of my CAT6509 and ran into some problems. when i introduce the modules in the 6509, the SUP shuts down and i get pwrdown on the module interface. when i insert the same into the 6509-E, it works fine. there seem to be enough power for at least on module. Any ideas?

What version of fan do you have in the 6509 chassis - it needs to be a fan tray 2.
Are you using the same Supervisor between chassis, if not are they the same type and are they running the same IOS ?

I am using a Fan tray 2 with single SUP720

Fan tray 2 and 2500Watts are required on Non-E Chassis.

Is the supervisor the same one and you switch it between chassis or are they different.
If different are they running the same IOS ?

no they are same SUP720 with different IOS. The 6509-E is running advipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF6. and the 6509 I just upgraded to advipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF13. However, this should only effect Multicasting and security stuff.

You can do ' show power' to check the power consumption. Are you running two power supplies? How many other modules are in the box?

I did show power and it has 800+ watts available. I am running 2 3000 watts.
