Hello,

is there a difference between a 6509 and 6513, besides of course the no. of slots in each chassis?

see the following link for 6500 series data sheet that describes the differnt chassis capabilities:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_data_sheet09186a00800ff916.html

it used to be that the 13th slot was for an ATM only blade. i cannot find any documentation that states this anymore. all docs state the 6513 can hold 12 modules that are common across all chassis. (telling me the ATM only slot no longer applies)

the only differnce i have found is that the 6513 supports upto 6000 watt powerSupply capacity. all other 6500's support upto 4000 watts total system capacity.

Some line cards (e.g. the WS-X6816-GBIC) have limitations on which slots they can work in on the 6513, but don't have similar restrictions on the 6509 or smaller...

Check the notes/data sheets for the cards you intend to fit...

Aaron

Same everything except for the fabric backplane connection. ONly slot 9 t0 13 have dual fabric connection therfore linecard that have dual fabric connectors can only be inserted in slots 9 -13 on a 6513 chassis. These line card are signified with WS-X67xx, for example 6704 and 6748 all have dual channel connector, therefore they will not power up on any other slot in a 6513 other than slots 9 - 13. There are no exception on 6509 chassis.

Catalyst 6509 chasis supports both WS-C6500-SFM and WS-C6500-SFM2. Both the SFM's are inserted in either

slot 5 or slot 6 on a 6509 Chasis.

Catalyst 6513 supports only WS-C6500-SFM2 but not WS-C6500-SFM. WS-C6500-SFM2 is inserted into slot 7 or slot 8 on a 6513 Chasis.

Note: WS-X6500-SFM2 and WS-C6500-SFM in combination with the Supervisor Engine 2 deliver an increase in available system bandwidth from the existing 32 Gbps to 256 Gbps. They enable an architecture that allows 30 Mpps of Cisco Express Forwarding-based central forwarding performance on Supervisor Engine 2 and up to 210 Mpps of distributed forwarding performance.

Difference between the WS-C6500-SFM and WS-C6500-SFM2:

The WS-C6500-SFM can only support up to eight fabric-enabled modules. For this reason, it can only function in a 6-slot or 9-slot 6500 Chassis.

The WS-C6500-SFM2 can support 11 fabric modules and functions in the 6-slot, 9-slot and 13-slot chassis.

Note: All line card slots in a 6-slot or 9-slot chassis have dual fabric channels. A 13-slot chassis, on the other hand, only has dual fabric channels in slots 9 through
