Hi all, my issue is I have 6509x2 form as VSS stucture.
one line module card before was inserted into 2/8 slot, and now insert into 2/4 slot.
After replacement. configuration under 2/8 slot still appear.
(that is physical interface giga2/8/1, giga 2/8/2, .....giga2/8/24).
So that I can't remove it. Even I reboot 6509, issue still exist.
By the way, I use a standalone 6509 to test the same thing. config still appear in old slot after insert into another new slot. But once I reboot 6509. the issue is fixed.

Hi,
There is "module clear-config" global configuration commands which needs to be entered prior the module removal. I would recommend to remove the command from the configuration after the module removal. If you keep the command "module clear-config" in the global configuration, every time you remove the module, the configuration for that given module is removed. This may not be needed if you are just replacing faulty HW module of the same kind.

I read this and the answer is wrong for a VSS. I moved a module from slot 1 to slot 3 and also from slot 2 to slot 1.
Upon reboot the module config for slot 2 remained. In order to remove it I used the following commands.
module provision switch 1
no slot 2 slot-type 284 port-type 60 number 16 virtual-slot 34
module provision switch 2
no slot 2 slot-type 284 port-type 60 number 16 virtual-slot 34
You can see what to type by doing this.
VSS_Core_6506(config)#do show run | sect provision
module provision switch 1
slot 1 slot-type 284 port-type 60 number 16 virtual-slot 17
slot 3 slot-type 156 port-type 31 number 24 virtual-slot 19
slot 5 slot-type 318 port-type 31 number 3 port-type 60 number 2 virtual-slot 21
!
module provision switch 2
slot 1 slot-type 284 port-type 60 number 16 virtual-slot 33
slot 3 slot-type 156 port-type 31 number 24 virtual-slot 35
slot 5 slot-type 318 port-type 31 number 3 port-type 60 number 2 virtual-slot 37
Hope this may help as my searching did not quickly come up with the answer.
Cheers.

Hi,
Cisco by default assume that you are removing a card to replace it with a similar card as part of mainrenance.
Please see this link on what the correct method is for card changing on a 6500

Alex.

module clear-config
This is not supported on VSS, at least with 15.x code levels.
I tried that.
VSS_Core_6506(config)#module clear-config
This command is not supported in Virtual Switch mode
VSS_Core_6506(config)#
