6513-E, 6513 and WS-X6748-GE-TX compatibility.

Hello we have a chassis 6513-E and a module WS-X6748-GE-TX, I'd like to know if could I put this module in any slot, since the documentation from Cisco says that any slot from a chassis 6500-E Series can support this module. And then in the documentation of WS-X6748-GE-TX says that this module is not compatible in the slots 1-8 of the 6513 chassis, only from 9th to 13th slots, in those slots from the 6513-E we already have 4x WS-X6748-GE-TX, and we'd like to know if could we put the module in the rest of the slots. The 6513, and 6513-E is kind of confusing.

Kind regards.

Hello Mario,

Line card WS-X6748-GE-TX is a dual-channel line card which can be only installed on slots 9-13 even on 6513-E.

Slots 1-6 are used to install the single-channel line-cards, whereas slots 7 and 8 are used for installing supervisors.

Hello Ivan,

We want to replace EOL WS-X6548-RJ-45 modules on Cisco 6513 ( non E-chassis) which are currently on slot-1,2,3 and 4 and when we look at cisco site the suggested  replacement module is WS-X6748-GE-TX.

But as per you  WS-X6748-GE-TX is a dual-channel line card which can only be installed on slots 9-13. Could you please suggest a compatable line card which we can install on slot 1- 4 ?

Thanks,

Uday

6724-SFP with copper optics.  (Not saying it's a great option.)

Also the older CEF256 and classic bus cards will work in those slots.

The 6513 (non E chassis) wasn't designed to support 40 Gbps to all slots, which was fine when you did use the older line cards and/or service modules.

In the 6500 series, today, for high capacity for lots of slots you need the 6513-E with sup2t.

Thanks for the update. But if someone can suggests us the 48 port copper Module Part number which is compartable in Slot 1 to 6 on WS-6513 switch. We want to replace EOL WS-6548-TX module.

My prior post wasn't an update - it was the answer.  Those slots do not have dual fabric support.  So you can use any 48 port copper line card that doesn't require dual fabric.  Any classic bus card 48 port copper card, that's not EOL (if any), would work.  Any CEF256 48 port copper card (with single fabric connection), like your 6548, should work.

If you want to use dual fabric cards, like 6748s in those slots, you'll need a 6513-E chassis with a sup2t.

You can review datasheets for the different line cards and look at EOL announcements to exclude EOL cards.

For newer gen cards, like the 67xx, 6800, and 69xx, most will require dual fabric connections.
