Hey everybody,

It's seems like it's that time of day again where i ask a question to aid me in my quest for knowledge - my search for the all-knowing Cisco Oracle!

A simple one today, a customer has asked for an upgraded supervisor memory card and it's been left to me to perform the installation. Having never done one before i was wondering how simple it was. Also i can't seem to get one of the switch fabric modules to sit right *and i don't want to force it) because the handles seem to big, is it just me or is it a common problem. Last, but by no means least i have to install a fan tray (i presume that's what the vertical slot on the side is for) - as i'm not running any supervisor 32's or 720's i was wondering if it was ok to power up the chassis (for diagnostic purposes) without the fan or is this just suicide? Thanks in advance.

Based on your post, it sounds like you are running Supervisor II, see the following URL on how to upgrade the DRAM:

You mentioned fabric module, what kind of line card are we dealing with ? 65xx or 67xx ?

Make sure it has the correct connectors in the backplane, don't force it - it should slide in.

You can replace the fan while the system is operating, don't run the chassis without the fan for a long period of time
