802.1x Authentication

Hi All,

While enabling 802.1x authentication, can we have the access switch or the Router take the role of a Authentication (RADIUS) server? Can we add username and password onto the switch/Router, and have the users authenticate whenever they plugin to the switch?

I wanted to know if an external RADIUS server is really required for authentication purposes?
