Hi

Which version is recommended for C9200L-48P-4G switches right now? ED or MD which brings more stability?

I can not see any gold star there!

Hi @Moudar

I always try to follow the recommendations from TAC as shown in this link:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/switches/catalyst-9300-series-switches/214814-recommended-releases-for-catalyst-9200-9.html

The ED are Early Deployments and should not be used in production unless they have a specific feature you are missing in the MD.

For the 9200L switches both 17.6.5 & 17.9.3 are recommended at the moment. I would go with 17.6.5

Without knowing what the network is all about, I am not going to recommend any.

Next, the "gold star" has no currency.  It is of no difference to, say, "I am from Vermont" or "I am from California" in the car plates.  The "gold star", which everyone seems to be chasing around, is not the same as Cisco's famed Safe Harbor.

During the era of Safe Harbor, if a firmware is stamped with a "Safe Harbor" badge, it means Cisco has spent considerable time and effort to test the said version up to a specific set of customer-provided scenarios.  This is also the reason why Safe Harbor badges were on IOS versions that were three or four versions behind the current ones.

The C9200L-24P-4G switches are used as normal access switches for users and APs.

What are the criterias of choosing an image? I want to upgrade these only because they are running old images with vulnerabilities like 16.12.04

My answer is still the same whether the switch is used in the core, distro or access.  I want a stable firmware and not like IOS-XE, which needs to be regularly rebooted or firmware needs to be upgraded because it is buggy.

If you want something to upgrade to, try 17.9.3.
