Adding 3850 to Stack

I have a 3850 stack with 2 members.  The master died and switch 2 took over.  As you can see below, it's waiting on switch 1.  I have it ready to configure, but I need some advice on how to proceed.  I'd like the current configuration to remain, will adding switch 1 back to the stack disrupt the connection or configuration?  Also, I couldn't find a command to change switch 2's priority, so that it remains the master.

Hi,

The command for change the priority switch is:

switch <Switch number> priority <priority value 1-15>

The procedure link is:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3850/software/release/3se/ha_stack_manager/configuration_guide/b_hastck_3se_3850_cg/b_hastck_3se_3850_cg_chapter_010.html#con_1178957

Procedure:

1° Make backup all configuration of the Stack

2° install Switch 1 and connect Stack interface

3° Verify if the configuration apply to Switch 1, if configuration is not apply, install configuration from backup make in step 1

4° Change the priority with command "switch <switch number> priority <priority value 1-15>"

I don't have the option to set priority...  below is what I see and that's it.  I guess because there is only 1 active switch in the stack?

switch2#(config) switch 2 ?

provision Configure Switch provision / offline config

if the option not appears, try to set the command in brute. I did have the same problem with renameber the switch in stack and the options not appears but i set the command in brute.

so, if you is in switch 1 the command to change the priority is:
 switch 1 priority <priority value 1-15>

if you is in switch 1 the command to change the priority is:
 switch 2 priority <priority value 1-15>

remember set in brute, not matter if command is not available por keyborad.

Ok, I see command must be run in EXEC mode.

Hi!

You can do it, the switch 1 will not become master if you connect it to the stack, HOWEVER, please add it while it is turned OFF and then boot it. DO NOT connect it to the stack when turned on or the whole stack will reload.

Also, this is a document created by myself to change the switch number without impacting your network, please refer to the following link:

https://supportforums.cisco.com/document/13013101/changing-switch-member-number-3850-stack

Hope it helps, best regards!

JC

Thanks!  That is useful information.  My plan is to just install SW1 and let it undergo the normal process for becoming a member of the stack.  Then adjust the priority of the 2 switches.  I'm expecting no service outage for this... hopefully.  BUT will have a maintenance window just in case.
