does anyone know how can I check the bootvar on a 3725 router with IOS 12.4(19)?  the "show bootvar" command doesnt work on this IOS.

Router#sh bootvar
               ^
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.

Try this command "sh run | b boot".

this router does not specify what file to boot in the config.  it has 1 file in the flash and the config-register is 0x2102.  normally it should load this only IOS from flash.  however, it's constantly booting into ROMMON.  I have to manually specify to boot flash:filename from ROMMON in order to load the IOS.  I am curious what is the current boot environment.  the show boot command is very useful.  but I am finding it doesnt exist on this version.  I am wondering if there is another way to display the same info.

Right.  If the appliance does NOT have a boot statement in the "sh boot" or config then it follows the simplest of rules.  It will run the FIRST IOS it sees from the list, from TOP TO BOTTOM.
