Can you post the output from console (putty or hyper terminal). Because I also faced the same issue. I tried with different baud rate, it worked for me. I don't remember exactly which baud rate worked for me. There 7 defferent rates

Hi i'm posting on behalf of a freind.

I did a bit of reasearch today & think they may have to change the baud rate like you did.

I found this forum where someone suggested 110.

http://www.sadikhov.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=145995

I already asked my freind to try that, when they get a chance, I will also get the putty output from them.

Only other thing I can think of it's the usb adapter they are using like it also says in that post, its probably not very good, either the driver

or the cable itself.

No substitue for a proper serial port on a pc sometimes.

Thaks for your suggestion anyway, its most appreciated.

I will post back with progress.

Hi Bob,

You could simulate a break sequence using this procedure.

  1. Connect to the router with these terminal settings:

    1200 baud rate

    No parity

    8 data bits

    1 stop bit

    No flow control

You no longer see any output on your screen, and this is normal.

  2. Power cycle (switch off and then on) the router and press the SPACEBAR for 10-15 seconds in order to generate a signal similar to the break sequence.

  3. Disconnect your terminal, and reconnect with a 9600 baud rate. You enter the ROM Monitor mode.

If this doesn't work, you would pull out the external compact flash card, do a hard-reset on your router. The router would definitely enter ROMMON mode after which the flash could be re-inserted back onto its slot.

Jumper J3 on the motherboard of the Cisco 2600 and  3600 Series Routers controls the speed reset. The factory default  position of the shunt shorts pins 2-3. When the shunt is moved to pins  1-2, the console is reset to 9600 baud on the next power cycle. Look for jumper  DUART_RST or BAUD_RST.
