C1300 Voice Traffic QoS

Is it possible to set automatic QoS for voice traffic on the switch?

[VPN]----------[C1300]---------[VoIP Phone]---------[PC]

VLAN1 : 192.168.0.0

-VPN : 192.168.0.1

-VoIP Phone(Avaya) : 192.168.0.2

-PC : 192.168.0.3

 

[Switch QoS Config]

qos trust cos-dscp (Global)

qos trust (interface)

Yes it is possible. Add also auto qos voip trust command.

unfortunately the C1300 series switches do not support the "auto qos voip trust" command that can be used on the enterprise-class switches.

So you need to enable the Voice Vlan on your switch and then configure the CoS/DSCP values. The detection of phones can either be done via the MAC OUI table that is part of the software or you can use radius.

Regarding the details you can take a look at the Quality of Service chapter of the Catalyst 1300 Admin Guide.

Without researching the QoS capabilities of your C1300 (which might be IOS version dependent - your's is?), cannot say.  (Perhaps later today I'll have time to review Jens' reference.)  However, traditionally for Cisco's AutoQoS to work as desired with VoIP phones, they had to be Cisco phones.  So, an Avaya phone might not "interface" with AutoQoS.  (Which doesn't mean they cannot be QoS supported by Cisco devices.)

That's the full topology?

If so, going upstream you may only need to concern yourself with correct QoS markings on the far side of the VPN.  (Believe the Avaya will prioritize its voice traffic over PC traffic to the C1300.)

You also would want to insure far VPN side prioritizes voice traffic bring sent down VPN.

BTW, also worthwhile to minimize fragmentation on VPN.

Also BTW, don't worry about a voice VLAN, it's not needed.

BTW, I've skimmed the C1300 QoS reference that Jens provided.  The C1300 appears to offer sufficient QoS to support VoIP.

How much QoS you actually need, on the C1300, very much depends on exactly how you're going to use the C1300.

If you only have two devices connected to the C1300, i.e. a single Avaya phone with a downstream PC connected to it, if the phone prioritizes its voice traffic, they you should only need QoS, for C1300 => VPN, if the VPN bandwidth is less than the C1300 <> phone port's bandwidth.

As I mentioned in my prior reply, you also need to consider QoS for VPN => C1300.

Enable 'QoS - Basic' only on the C1300
We have proceeded with the LAB test, and the results are good.
