C3850 Boot Variable

Silly question here. I have a C3850 switch that I just upgraded to the most recent IOS. When I reboot the switch it loads back into the previous version IOS. How do I set the boot variable for this switch to boot to the current configuration? I have attempted to add the flash:packages.conf; variable but it will never move out of the "boot variables on next reload" items when i reload the switch. I am then forced to reload the most recent IOS image to the switch since it boots into the old IOS

Current Boot Variables:
BOOT variable does not exist

Boot Variables on next reload:
BOOT variable = flash:packages.conf;
Manual Boot = no
Enable Break = no
Boot Mode = DEVICE
iPXE Timeout = 0

The output looks good.

If the switch still boots the old firmware, console into the switch and reboot. I want to see what the switch is doing.

Sorry, I was off for the holidays. I just rebooted the switch and it boots to the correct version of firmware. However, it will load into the default config file. But, my previously saved config is still in the startup-config. I can copy it over to the running-config and it fixes the issue, but is there a way to avoid that step?

Try it.

If the switch boots into the new firmware, then all is well.

If the switch boots the intended config and boots the OLD firmware, then the config is the source.

I have exactly the same problem as you.
Did you find the failure?
My switch is booting into the correct firmware (16.03.09), but still not loading the startup-config automatically.
If I copy the startup-config into the running-config all is working well.

Did someone perform a password-recovery of the switch?

Hi Leo.

Please see here my result for "sh romvar":

Maybe the command is wrong (I am running version 16.03.09)?

For the password-recovery I am not 100% sure.
I purchased the used switch from a refurbisher. I assume they deleted all stuff from the former user.
I the meantime I only updated the switch from 16.03.05 to 16.03.09.
According to the information while booting 16.03.09 is running.
Any idea how to get the switch booting with the startup values correctly?

Sorry, I was mistaken. The command should be "sh rom-var".
