C9300 StackPower Configuration

Hello,

We are planning to configure a stack of 4 x C9300X-48HX switches with StackPower. I have read the whitepaper on this technology and there was one thing that puzzled me.

Here is the scenario:

 - Stack of 4 switches, where the top switch is configured with dual power supplies and the other 3 switches are configured with a single power supply

  - One of the member switches' power supply fails. How would this switch continue its operations using the StackPower Technology if the power supply is dead and the the stackpower cable is connected to it?

"Cisco StackPower provides a revolutionary alternative to power redundancy for the Cisco access switches. It pools the available power supplies from all the switches and makes the pooled power available to all of them. The pooling of the power supplies is the most efficient way to distribute power to all the switches equally, because any switch can use the power from the pool, and if a power supply fails, excess power from the pool can be redistributed to the affected switch in no time."

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-9300-series-switches/white-paper-c11-741945.html

Thanks in advance.

Best, ~zK

The stack power cables do not connect to the power supplies. There is a separate slot for connecting the stack power cable. This is how one switch can feed another switch and stay up even when the power cord is unplugged. You can test that if you have a couple switches that are not in production. Connect 2 switches using a stacking power cable, and turn on the PSUs for both switches Once the switches are all up and running, unplug the power cord (not the stacking cable) from one of the switches. You will see the switch continue working.
