Hi dave,

No it will not work.

Catalyst 3850 and C9300 network modules are supported on the C9300 models. C9300X network modules are only supported on the C9300X models.

Technically, they may only be "supported" on a 9300 platform, but this is misleading information.   I have now been running the C9300X-NM-8M module for months now, both 1 and 10 g fiber (and copper sfps) with zero problem on a 3850.   "Supported" or not it works just fine.   Supported is a funny word, especially in the tech world   Just because your screw driver is a flathead and not "supported" to be a small pry bar, doesnt mean it can't work.

Just use caution. And mostly?   Stop believing vendors that only want to lock you into there stuff for greed.  Remember, the "love of money (greed) is the ROOT to ALL evil."

Is the End of Life notice wrong?

9300X modules are listed as replacements for 3850 uplinks: C9300X-NM-2C and C9300X-NM-8Y

I would like to know the answer to this as it seems clear in the EOL notice that it would work. Has anyone actually tried (supported or not)?

I have followed up on this and here's some facts: The 3850-NM8-10G v1 module will work on all IOS versions up to cat3k_caa-universalk9.16.12.01.SPA.bin. If you use an IOS newer, the 3850-NM8-10G will not be recognized. I can also confirm that the 9300-NM-8-10G will work on a Cisco WS-C3850-12X48U up to cat3k_caa-universalk9.16.12.09.SPA.bin (current version as of this writing). If you update your IOS past cat3k_caa-universalk9.16.12.01.SPA.bin and the module stops working, you can simply downgrade to a prior version (cat3k_caa-universalk9.16.12.01.SPA.bin or below) with no issues and the module will start working again.

Hey Dude,

Thanks for this.  This is really helpful.   I would like to clarif one part - you state it the 9300 8x10g WILL work on "cat3k_caa-universalk9.16.12.09.SPA.bin"   but then immediately follow up with "If you update your IOS past cat3k_caa-universalk9.16.12.01.SPA.bin and the module stops working, you can simply downgrade to a prior version (cat3k_caa-universalk9.16.12.01.SPA.bin or below) with no issues and the module will start working again."   i am a little confused.   Is 9.16.12.01 higher than 9.16.12.9?   Maybe I am missing something....anyway   would like to know the highest of I do not hear back, I ll assumb 9.16.12.01

Thank again.

Sorry for the confusion, the most recent IOS that will work is cat3k_caa-universalk9.16.12.01.SPA.bin.

Sorry for the confusion, the most recent IOS that will work is cat3k_caa-universalk9.16.12.01.SPA.bin. Keep in mind that you can downgrade if you have issues.
