Hello,
I want to configure my switch via console cable, the switch boots up normally, and there are no configurations present on the switch. However, anything I type does not appear on the terminal client. I used several terminal clients (TeraTerm, PuTTY, HyperTerminal), all latest versions as well as different PCs. I even forced the switch to rommon mode, still, anything I type does not appear on the terminal client.
Here's the output of TeraTerm:
Boot Sector Filesystem (bs) installed, fsid: 2
Base ethernet MAC Address: e8:40:40:06:f0:80
Xmodem file system is available.
The password-recovery mechanism is enabled.

After the last line, I can not type any command at all. I encountered this on three 2960 switches that we have here in our laboratory. Can anybody help me on how I can get access to the switch via console?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, I checked my console cable, the cable worked for other Cisco devices. I also used different PCs and laptops, as well as different OS, Windows XP and Windows 7. The same result, anything I type does not appear on the terminal cliet.

Hello,
Try it:
1-) Enter in rommon mode - Press Mode button
2-) type flash_init
3-) type delete flash:/config.text - press y
4-) type boot
Now, you must wait the end of boot and try again.

I already forced it to rommon mode, on the "switch:" prompt, anything I type still does not appear on the terminal client.

Hello:
How did you fix it? I´m facing the same issue, I already disabled all flow controls and also parity, and I have tried with all the values too

Hi, the only time I've seen something similar was with Teraterm and an AP1131. In that case it was down to the flow control settings of the serial port under Teraterm - try the other available settings XON/XOFF, Hardware or None and see if that helps.

I had the same problem. Turns out it was my serial console settings. I had to disable ALL flow control in SecureCRT. I had RTS/CTS checked and it always worked before so I had to uncheck it.

I had this issue with a 2960-X. Your post helped me out! I am using SecureCRT, and I had to disable all flow control. Thanks.

I had the same problem. Ruled out console cable, PC, and term emulation program. At one point I knew it worked because I configured switch. Luckily I was able to telnet to switch and troubleshoot. I removed aaa new-model and then the console prompt started working. It seems like it was something with the AAA configuration. Strange.

Would you please make sure the settings for the emulation software.
9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, and no flow control

Sameh -
If you read through the post that was tried already by the original poster. As I stated in my earlier comment, I fixed my problem by resetting the AAA settings on the switch (no aaa new-model). I was just letting the forum know in case other people are having the same issue and want to try this fix.

setting flow control to none fixed the issue for me
