Can not upgrade IOS via 4500X Managment port

I have upgraded varies switches and routers in the past. I have been tasked to upgrade the IOS on two 4500X switches I configured and IP address on the management port as well as my laptop, but can not ping the laptop or the 4500X. The only way I can ping the 4500X is from itself using the following command ping vrf mgmtVrf 10.40.255.2 if I try to ping using just ping 10.40.255.2 it doesn't work. Is there a detailed procedure anywhere on how to upgrade the IOS or is there something I need to add to the config in order to ping both ways?

Hey Dushaune,

Its as per design. The management interface is in a separate mgmt VRF, check the link:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/15-1/XE_330SG/configuration/guide/config/sw_int.html#pgfId-1110644

The IOS upgrade procedure remains the same however you have to use a network port.

HTH.
