Can ping IP address, but no arp and route to IP

I can ping IP x.x.x.x from a Cisco router, but I am trying to figure out the path the ping packet takes from the router to the destination IP. Guidance is appreciated, thanks!

sh arp | i x.x.x.x

No results.

x.x.x.x is not in the routing table:

show ip route x.x.x.x

% Network not in table.

traceroute x.x.x.x

Unable to reach destination. The traceroute ends with many *.

how about show ip cef x.x.x.x ? try that but I think you don't have destination network in RIB so router uses the default gateway/route, aka 0.0.0.0/0.  Then, others block icmp replies that is why you see * when doing trace route.

Hello

how is the rtr configuration- what routing process is it using?
