Catalyst 3560-8PC-S IOS Versions

Hello,

I have an old C3560-8PC-S switch that I would like to use for more than a boat anchor. It currently has IOS 12.2(35)SE5 on it. Does anyone know what the latest IOS is that will run on this device? I would really like to convert to IOS 15 since I've done that on all my other older devices. Due to its age, I am unable to find anything about available IOS images for this device. I have a c2960-lanlitek9-tar.150-2.SE11.tar image. Probably a dumb question, but would a C2960 image run on a C3560 switch?

Thanks for any help I can get.

@RIck Carlisle ok, checking my 3560 8 port switch it's the WS-C3560-8PC model (not the 3560C model) and it supports 15.0(2), though there isn't a direct link to download this image on the cisco site.

Switch Ports Model SW Version SW Image
------ ----- ----- ---------- ----------
* 1 9 WS-C3560-8PC 15.0(2)SE10 C3560-IPSERVICESK9-M

Configuration register is 0xF

3560-8#show boot
BOOT path-list : flash:/c3560-ipservicesk9-mz.150-2.SE10.bin

Thanks Leo but it's not a 3560C. It's an old straight WS-C3650-8PC.

3560-8PC is a compact switch.  It is the "start" of the compact switch line.  I will forever call it "compact".
The IOS files I have responded is compatible to the 3560-8PC because we have one or two lying around the storeroom somewhere.

as per i know latest is -  12.2.55-SE12  (if you have CCO account you can download and install) - make sure you keep copy of the existing version also in case required.

This is not support - never do that, this will brick your box.

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

Thank you SIr!

I was pretty sure using a 2960 image wouldn't work but it was worth asking. I do have a CCO account but it's a guest account until we can get a service contract in place. Working with sales on that. We acquired this and a number of other Cisco devices as part of an asset purchase from Chevron. With regard to the 15 upgrade, do you know if there is a 15.2-SE11 image for the old 3560?

BB, thank you Sir. I found the links. I have the 15.0.2-SE11 and the 12.2.55-SE12 tar and bin files.

@RIck Carlisle I still run the 3560 8 port switch, it's a great little switch, it supports 15.2. Download link https://software.cisco.com/download/home/283915797/type/280805680/release/15.2.2E10

Rob,

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, my switch is not a 3560C. It's an old WS-3560-8PC-S. I'm pretty sure the 3560C image won't run on the old 3560. It would be great if I'm wrong about that.

Rob,

Thanks for the file name! I was able to find these files on the cisco site.

c3560-ipbasek9-mz.150-2.SE11.bin, c3560-ipbasek9-tar.150-2.SE11.tar, c3560-ipbasek9-mz.150-2.SE10.bin and c3560-ipbasek9-tar.150-2.SE10.tar. Release notes seem to say these are all compatible with the WS-C3560-8PC.

Also found these,  c3560-ipbasek9-mz.122-55.SE12.bin and c3560-ipbasek9-tar.122-55.SE12.tar. The link to the release files for the 12.2 images is broken so I can't confirm these are good images.

I think I'll go ahead and back up the current image and try the 15.0(2)SE11 image and see how it goes.

Thanks again!

@Rob Ingram & @RIck Carlisle

There are two IOS versions that can support 3560C (compact), and they are:

  1. 12.2(55)SE12
  2. 15.0(2)SE11

These two trains are considered the most stable (and second only to SXI and SXJ).  Download the TAR files.

Thanks Leo but it's not a 3560C. It's an old straight WS-C3650-8PC.

Thanks Leo. It's been about 20 years since I had to get into the IOS. I think the last switch I programmed was a 4048G (4824G ? can't remember the number). It was the first layer 3 switch Cisco made (I think). Haven't done much between then and now. Funny how it starts to come back.

Thanks for your help!
