Hello guys!
When quoting a Catalyst 3750X with PoE (WS-C3750X-48P-E) the Dynamic Configurator Tool allows to include as the secondary power supply option the Catalyst 3K-X 350W AC Secondary Power Supply (C3KX-PWR-350WAC/2), but the default included primary power supply is the Catalyst 3K-X 715W AC Power Supply (C3KX-PWR-715WAC). My questions are the following:
1. Will this combination of power supply work?
2. Will the C3KX-PWR-350WAC/2 be able to power up the switch if the primary power supply of 715W fails?
3. Will the PoE will be lost if the primary power supply fails and only the secondary power supply of 350W keeps working?
4. If this secondary power supply of 350W is not suitable for PoE, why it is available as a secondary power supply option in the Dynamic Configurator Tool for a PoE switch?

1 Yes it will, but maybe not the way you want it to. ie you might want it to power both the switch and some poe units but dependant on the demands it might or might not be able to do that.
2 Yes the 350w will be able to power the switch itself, POE is another question.
3 No it will not be lost, however it will most likely not support the same ammount of POE units sucking power from it.
you can configure wich port should have priority to stay alive. (not only ports but whole switches if they are stacked)
4 It might or might not be suitable for POE depending on how much power you want/need.
As far as I know the 350w is what is normally shipped with any 3750x unless another powersupply is ordered.
there are 3 AC powersupplies you can choose from
350w (wich can power a switch on its own) 715w and 1100w.
if you have 350 x 2 you have redundant ps for fx 1 or 2 Wireless AP or phones or something like that.
If that is all you need then why buy bigger ?
Another thing is that you can use stackpower ie the switches can share powersupplies and you can even run switches without any powersupply at all in them just giving them power through the stackpowercables.
if you for some reason would want that.

If you are dealing with 48-ports and PoE then you can't go wrong with a 715w primary and secondary power supply. Heck, you can even stack the power too!
