What exactly does the "Bytes dropped in asic" number displayed mean when you stop a capture? See below. I created a capture to source from a vlan, circular buffer, 50 meg size. I've tried various combos and it still happens on all - capturing from a physical interface, straight buffer, smaller/bigger sizes, etc. If the EPC the asic runs on is dropping packets because it can't keep up with the rate, why does the show buffer command give you 0 packets dropped?
#show mon cap cap buff
buffer size (KB) : 51200
buffer used (KB) : 51200
packets in buf : 70433
packets dropped : 0
packets per sec : 9
#conf t
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
(config)#exit
#mon cap cap stop
Bytes dropped in asic - 457023793
Stopped capture point : cap
