Cisco 2811 console server

Hi,

Im trying to connect a Cisco 2811 using an octal cable to a Juniper MX480 console port.  (Sorry for mentioning Juniper)

Since the distance between Cisco 2811 and router is 20ft, im using couplers and a straight-through cable for the lack of slack. This wiring doesnt work, however in another city it works going straight from the Cisco 2811 octal cable to the router since they are in the same rack.

Try a roll-over first.  If not, you can also use the same straight through cable and use a rolled coupler.

So, since the Cisco side is rolled, if you use a rolled coupled, that should make it straight. Now, you should be able to plug that into your MX.

Hi,

Juniper console devices use straight through cable. Since Cisco console uses rolled cable, try extending the cable by using a rolled cable and test again.

On the Cisco 2811, Im using an octal cable.  This provides 8 rollover cables.  I used two couplers and a striaght-through for the reach.  Cisco 2811=>octal "L4" (female connector)=>coupler=>straight cable=>Juniper console.  Should i use a roll-over instaed of straight?
