The 2950 gets a config error when booting, does a dump, then freezes up.
How do you restore the switch to factory
defaults and start over?
C2950 Boot Loader (C2950-HBOOT-M) Version 12.1(14)AZ, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)
Boot Sector Filesystem (bs:) installed, fsid: 3
Parameter Block Filesystem (pb:) installed, fsid: 4
Loading "file1"...file1: no such device
Error loading "file1"
Interrupt within 5 seconds to abort boot process.
Loading "flash:/c2950-i6q4l2-mz.121-22.EA12.bin"
Not sure how "file1" got in there.
Any ideas how to get around this?
Thanks

Hello.
Try typing the following two commands first
flash_init
load_helper
..Then try that command again.

Hello.
You need to boot into rommon to see what is wrong. Connect to the console port with your terminal program and then pull out the power cord. Then, hold down the mode button on the front of the switch and reconnect the power. Hold the button down for 5 seconds until the STAT LED goes out. This should put you into rommon mode. Try the command below to see if you have an image on flash:
switch: dir flash:
Directory of flash:/
2 -rwx 2665985
17 -rwx 2687
4 drwx 768
16 -rwx 836
21 -rwx 5
6 -rwx 110
19 -rwx 110
22 -rwx 301
3774464 bytes available (3966976 bytes used)
If you see a image under the list like this then try to boot it with the following command
boot flash:[image name]
switch: boot flash:c2950-i6q4l2-mz.121-11.EA1a.bin
Loading "flash:c2950-i6q4l2-mz.121-11.EA1a.bin"...##############################
################################################################################
#####
If the image has gone then you will need to start the Xmodem proceedure.
To xmodem you need a program like hyperterminal and the image on your laptop/PC. Connect to the switch via console and issue the following command for your image.
switch: copy xmodem:c2950-i6q4l2-mz.121-11.EA1a.bin flash:c2950-i6q4l2-mz.121-11.EA1a.bin
The switch will come back with the following message
>Begin the Xmodem or Xmodem-1K transfer now...
At this point click Transfer>send file from hyperterminal. Select the image file from your PC and select the xmodem protocol.
The image should start transferring to the switch but takes a long time. Also it never normally works first time so you may have to try the proceedure several times.
The image should automatically boot after it downloads but please do not reboot the switch as the image is only running in RAM and you will need to tftp the image to bootflash again.

Hi,
Thanks for the response. I had tried the
procedures that you suggested. Here is the result:
switch: dir flash:Unknown cmd:
The xmodem transfer gets a "bad packet" error and retries until it times out. I
have tried it about six times. Maybe I should download another copy of the bin
file from Cisco.

Hi Simon,
Thanks very much for your help. I was
able to xmodem an image to flash and
write mem to save it. It appears to be
working now.
