Cisco 4503 crashes when one power supply loses power

Hi,

I have a Cisco 4503 which will without fail crash when power is lost to one power supply.

All of the LEDs will illuminate on the switch in red/alarm state and it will stop passing traffic.

The failure scenarios are as follows:

- Run on any one power supply - OK

- Run on any one power supply and then power on second power supply while running - Crash

- Run on both power supplies and lose power to any second power supply while running - Crash

Obviously, this is not a very good situation as there is no power redundancy!

I haven't been able to confirm any console messages when this occurs.

The device is running  IOS 15.0(2)SG6.

#sh module

Chassis Type : WS-C4503

Power consumed by backplane : 0 Watts

Mod Ports Card Type                              Model              Serial No.

---+-----+--------------------------------------+------------------+-----------

1     2  Supervisor IV 1000BaseX (GBIC)         WS-X4515

2     6  SFP, 10/100/1000BaseT (RJ45)V, Cisco/I WS-X4506-GB-T

3    48  10/100/1000BaseT (RJ45)                WS-X4548-GB-RJ45

There is sufficient capacity to run on one power supply:

Power                                             Fan      Inline

Supply  Model No          Type       Status       Sensor   Status

------  ----------------  ---------  -----------  -------  -------

PS1     PWR-C45-1000AC    AC 1000W   good         good     n.a.

PS2     PWR-C45-1000AC    AC 1000W   good         good     n.a.

Power supplies needed by system    : 1

Power supplies currently available : 2

Power Summary                      Maximum

(in Watts)              Used     Available

----------------------   ----     ---------

System Power (12V)        230        1050

Inline Power (-50V)         0           0

Backplane Power (3.3V)      0          40

----------------------   ----     ---------

Total                     230        1090

The power supplies are configured in redundancy mode:

#sh run | I power

power redundancy-mode redundant

Any ideas? Known bugs?

Thanks

Sounds like you have found a bug , contact the TAC or find a late release 12.2 release which are more stable than the 15 releases.
