Hi, I have a Cisco 6509 Chassis with these module inserted
1 10 WiSM WLAN Service Module WS-SVC-WISM-1-K9
2 8 8 port 1000mb GBIC Enhanced QoS WS-X6408A-GBIC
4 48 CEF720 48 port 10/100/1000mb Ethernet WS-X6748-GE-TX
5 2 Supervisor Engine 720 (Active) WS-SUP720-3B
8 48 CEF720 48 port 10/100/1000mb Ethernet WS-X6748-GE-TX
I recently buy a refurbished CDF720 48 port module (module 4), but I didn't specify and verify the sub-module on it.
Here is all the sub-module of my module
1 Centralized Forwarding Card WS-SVC-WISM-1-K9-D
4 Distributed Forwarding Card WS-F6700-DFC3A
5 Policy Feature Card 3 WS-F6K-PFC3B
5 MSFC3 Daughterboard WS-SUP720
8 Centralized Forwarding Card WS-F6700-CFC
and here is the fw and sw version
Mod MAC addresses Hw Fw Sw
--- ---------------------------------- ------ ------------ ------------
1 xxxx 2.2 12.2(14r)S5 12.2(18)SXF1
2 xxxx 1.1 5.1(1)CSX 8.5(0.46)RFW
4 xxxx 2.5 Unknown Unknown
5 xxxx 5.6 8.5(2) 12.2(18)SXF1
8 xxxx 2.6 12.2(14r)S5 12.2(18)SXF1
When I hot-add the module 4, it was disabled by the chassis and the message in the log was
Mar 21 10:11:37.012: %C6KENV-SP-2-DFCMISMATCHMINOR: Module 4 DFC installed is in
compatible with system operating mode. Power denied.
I read that sub-card or sub-feature cannot be mix, the upper feature will downgrade itself to work correctly, is it right?
I don't want to reboot the switch and don't know what will do the system. If someone can confirm that I can reboot without stress and the new card, even if it's better than the other one will be downgrade itself to make comatible.
If I type the command show platform hardware pfc mode
I got PFC3B

Hi,
A couple of links for you to read.
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/switches/catalyst-6500-series-switches/107258-C6K-PFC-DFC-CFC.html
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/hardware/Config_Notes/78_11627.html
So you need to repower the whole switch with the module installed in slot 4.
As you have a PFC3B on you sup720 (slot 5) when the module with the DFC3A in slot 4 starts running
your PFC will regress to to PFC3A mode.
Hope this helps
Regards

Hi!
The linecard will not work even after the reload since you have a CFC 3A and a DFC 3B.
4 Distributed Forwarding Card WS-F6700-DFC3A
5 Policy Feature Card 3 WS-F6K-PFC3B
All linecards in the chassis MUST be of the same family. CFC 3A WITH DFC 3A. You cannot combine 3A with 3B or 3A with 4B/A.
Hope it helps, best regards!

Ok thanks, I already read the first link, I will ask my reseller if we can change the DFC card instead of regressing.
Thanks for you help
