Hi all,
Cisco 6509 modular IOS getting high cpu in interrupt but the switch process switching is still less. Any sugeestion what could be the problem?
Process sbin/ios-base, type IOS, PID = 16407
CPU utilization for five seconds: 12%/81%;
Sometimes cpu goes upto 100%

Greetings,
The following CSC doc covers the netdr tool to identify traffic being sent to the CPU which is the most common cause for interrupt utilization: https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-14086
Follow this process while the CPU utilization is raised to identify trends in the packets which aren't being software switched:
debug netdr clear
debug netdr cap rx
(wait a few seconds)
undebug all
sh netdr cap | i int
Is there one interface receiving the majority of traffic? If so - any config/feature on that interface that could require software switching (SLB, PBR, NAT, WCCP, ACL with log etc)?
sh netdr cap | i ttl
Is there an excess of traffic with TTL 1?
Are there some common destination IP/subnets?
sh netdr cap | i dest_indx
How many of the capture lines have 'flood 1' set?
What are the most common dest_indx value?
Kind Regards,
/Phil

Hi Phil,
I will check command outputs and update you.
hi Edison,
it came along with new cisco 6500 box. We do not have any specific reason.
