WS-X6716-10T-3C should be compatible with your current setup.

Thank for reply Leo,

Can you advise which slot number i should use in 6509 ?

Is it hot swapable module & can i install this module in production ?

Regards,

You can insert this line card during production hours,  however, make sure you have proper change control in case something untowards happen.

You can insert this line card into any slot except slots 5 and 6.

My understanding, either slot 5 or 6 would be fine too as long it's empty and you don't plan to populate both with a sup.

Although 6500 line cards support OIR, on rare occasion a problem is created.  Recommend doing during non-production time or during scheduled maintenance time.

Why does Leo say you cannot install in slots 5 or 6. I have heard this before but cant find any reason other than thats where the Sups go

slots 5 and 6 are reserved for the sups. Supervisors have to go into these slots due to the crossbar fabric on the sups.

in a single sup chassis, the sup must be in slot 5. However, linecards will work, at least in my experience, in slot 6. I believe it's a bad practice and should only be done if absolutely necessary, but does work. What you will notice, if you do this, is that the power allocation is always done for a 2nd sup, so you won't actually see the power draw of the card.......that being said if the draw of your card is greater than the sup, I don't think it will work, but that's just a guess.

In my environment, we have a couple instances where we are using an old 6516 card in slot 6, and that doesn't draw more power than the sup3b, so it works for us.

chris

Thanks. I completely overlooked that. I thought it was just slot 5 you couldnt use.  Fortunately slot 2 is available

Why does Leo say you cannot install in slots 5 or 6.

Because it won't fit.  With a torch/flashlight/pen light, look at the pins at the slots 5 and 6.  Compare the pins of the rest of the slots.  They are different.  This is because, like what Chris said, slots 5 and 6 are used for Supervisor cards only.

you don't mention what type of power supplies you have, just might want to double check to make sure you have enough power for the new card. - chris

I can check the power details by tomorrow & can share with you.

Mean While can you tell me how much Power is required for this module ?

Regards,

Hello cmarva,

I got power requirement from core switch:
