hey folks

i wanna add other module for 7600 that support 10 G traffic .

now i have sup32 module with 8 G ports

but i want to add other modules or slots to my  router so that i be able to use 10 G

i need at least 2 ports  each one 10 G.

here is inventory config :

Your sup32 is an issue, as that sup series is classic bus.  Of the sup32s, only the sup32-10G provided 10g; don't know if its even supported on a 7600.  (BTW, in theory, a sup32-10G dual 10g port can overwhelm the classic bus's bandwidth.)

I believe any other 10g line card will require a fabric, so you'll need a sup720 to replace your sup32.

As yours chassis isn't a -S series, and sup32s and sup720s are EoL, you may want to carefully review what other options you might have if you need to move to 10g.

thank you , can we have both modules in same time be running on sae chassis

I believe, normally sups have to be matched models.  I.e. you wouldn't be able to add a sup720 with the sup32, but except for sup redundancy, you wouldn't need to.

As to mixing a sup32 and a sup32-10G, not sure about that.  I suspect not.  Again, unless you want to take advantage of sup redundancy, you should be able to replace the sup32 with the sup32-10G.  The advantage of the sup32-10G, you wouldn't also need another 10g line card.

sorry

i was asking about to keep the sup-32 as switch for other purpose.

and i install new sup720

can i have two modules above running in same time ?

kind regards

Often you can have two like sups in the same chassis.  Both don't actually fully run at the same time.  One sup is a "warm" spare, it will take over if the "hot" sup fails.  However, often you can use ports on both sups, at the same time.

I think I recall the very small chassis might not support dual sups, like a 7603, but also believe a 7604 does.  Hardware support options should be documented in Cisco's IOS documentation and/or release notes for your IOS version.

dear joseph

thanks for reply .

still i have a bit of confusion .

what do you mean "sup" cant run on same time .

but the ports of them can run on same time ?

i only care about adding the functionality of 2 x10 G interfaces to the other ports .

will that be possible ?

sorry for my confusion .

In the 6500 or 7600, generally when you install two sups, one is "active", it actually doing all the work, while the other is "hot", it's waiting to take over if the active sup fails.

e.g.

6509#sh mod
Mod Ports Card Type                              Model
--- ----- -------------------------------------- ------------------
  3    8  CEF720 8 port 10GE with DFC            WS-X6708-10GE
  4   48  CEF720 48 port 10/100/1000mb Ethernet  WS-X6748-GE-TX
  5    2  Supervisor Engine 720 (Active)         WS-SUP720-3B
  6    2  Supervisor Engine 720 (Hot)            WS-SUP720-3B
  7   48  CEF720 48 port 10/100/1000mb Ethernet  WS-X6748-GE-TX

I recall with 6500/7600 sups, you can use all ports on both installed sups.

this point is totally understood .

I'm asking now incase i have sup32 and sup720 in same time .

i believe one will be working and other is standby

all i need from the 720 that I'm gonna add is the ports .

im not looking for extra features

will that be possible ?

does 7600 support combination  of multi different cards on in same time ?

kind regards

As far as I know, mixed sup cards are not supported in the chassis.

I'm not even sure a sup32 can be used in the same chassis with a sup32-10g.  I would expect it cannot.
